| MEQUON, Wis. - St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson, entering the final year of his contract, was a no-show for the opening team meeting of training camp on Friday. Coach Scott Linehan said Thursday after the team arrived at its new training site in suburban Milwaukee that Jackson had told him he would not be on the team charter flight from St. Louis. The coach apparently was unaware that Jackson didn't make his own arrangements, either. Linehan also said Thursday that getting a contract extension for Jackson was a "priority." The team has been in contact with Jackson's agent. "I know within the last couple days there has been dialogue," Linehan said Thursday. "Our hope is that will be done pretty soon." Jackson was considered a holdout after missing the meeting Friday morning, the team said on its website. The Rams' first practice at Concordia University was scheduled for Friday afternoon. Jackson is in the final season of a five-year contract he signed after the Rams drafted him in the first round in 2004. He has had three straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons after totalling 1,002 last year despite injuries that sidelined him for four games. The Rams also were negotiating with Donnie Avery, a second-round pick in this year's draft and the lone unsigned pick. __________________ To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. | Jackson No Show; Fined $15,000 Per Day (Updated---The Rams made a contract offer to Steven Jackson late last night, and it was rejected this afternoon by his agent Eugene Parker. Jackson will be fined $15,000 each day he is absent. Parker also represents Devin Hester who is trying to get a new contract from the Bears.) Post-Dispatch Rams beat writer Jim Thomas joined Randy Karraker on The Roll Home on Team 1380 Friday afternoon live from Rams Camp. Jim said there is no sign of Steven Jackson yet. Steven’s agent Eugene Parker and Rams officials were talking as late as 9:30/10pm last night. Thomas thinks that Rams fans shouldn’t worry about it unless he doesn’t show up over the weekend. If you have a contract you should be in camp, but Jim said he can see the players’ point of view because teams can cut players when they don’t want them anymore. Jackson not showing up on time is also a downer for the organization because he is the cover boy for their marketing campaign.

| I hope we get Jackson signed and that they spent enough money fixing the offensive line. __________________ To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. | Latest on Jackson Holdout According to Jim Thomas of the Post-Dispatch, there's been no dialogue regarding a new deal since talks of an extension broke off last Friday. According to NFL Players Association rules, Jackson must report by August 8th or the 2008 season won't count towards his eligibility for free agency should the current collective bargaining agreement be voided, which is being threatened by team owners. Jackson reportedly turned down a contract offer last week that would have placed him among the top four highest paid running backs in the NFL. It's believed Jackson is seeking $20 million in guarantees. __________________ To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. | Jackson a no-show through 7 days of training camp Associated Press MEQUON, Wis. -- Holdout running back Steven Jackson missed his seventh day and 10th practice of St. Louis Rams training camp Thursday, with no apparent movement in the impasse. Jackson, entering the final season of a four-year contract he signed after the Rams drafted him in the first round in 2004, is seeking a multiyear deal. The Rams are fining Jackson, who has three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, $15,000 a day and have told his agent, Eugene Parker, there will be no more negotiations until Jackson reports to camp. Parker has not responded to a telephone message from the AP. Rams coach Scott Linehan was late to the field for practice, prompting curiosity, but said that was because he was meeting with some players. He and Jackson have been text-messaging back and forth, and Linehan said he spoke to the running back on the telephone "the other night." "I called him, talked to him briefly to see how he was doing," Linehan said. "It has nothing to do with anything other than letting him know that everything's going to be OK." __________________ To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. | Jackson misses 16th workout, 12th day of camp Associated Press MEQUON, Wis. -- Steven Jackson's holdout is headed for the two-week mark, and it appears little or no progress is being made. The St. Louis Rams running back was absent for Tuesday morning's practice. It's the 16th workout he's missed in training camp and the 12th day of camp for which he hasn't been present. This missed workout, though, could hold more weight than others. According to NFL rules, a player must be in camp 30 days before the start of the regular season or risk losing an accrued season of experience and eligibility for free agency. The 2008 season opens Sept. 4 when the Washington Redskins and New York Giants square off. That means the 30-day deadline came Tuesday and Jackson was nowhere to be found at Concordia University, where the Rams are training. __________________ To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. | Jackson Looking for New Agent? National football writer Howard Balzer has reported that Steven Jackson may be looking for a new agent because he isn't happy that his current agent hasn't been able to get anywhere with the Rams. The Rams have had two full weeks of training camp now without Jackson, and there have been no conversations between the Rams and Jackson’s agent, Eugene Parker, since camp opened July 25. There is a five day waiting period before Jackson would be able to hire a new agent if he decides to fire Parker, which would push potential negotiations back till at least next Wednesday. The Rams have remained firm that they will not negotiate any contracts unless Jackson is in camp, and there is speculation that the two sides are not far apart. There are reports that Jackson is looking for around $20 million guaranteed, and the Rams are a few million under that. Jackson is on either his third or fourth agent in four years. Jackson didn't hire Parker till this past June after former agent Gary Uberstine dropped him as a client in the spring. Rocky Arceneaux was Jackson’s first agent after he was drafted, and it is believed he hired Lamont Smith/Peter Schaeffer for a brief time. __________________ To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. | Seems these deals would be relatively easy to pull off as well. Dude ranks a certain place for RBs in the league. There is a certain amount of cash that rank affords. Offer it to him, let him counter, go in the middle somewhere. He didn't have the greatest season last year by any means, but the guy is at least one of the top 3 RBs in the league right now regardless of having an off-year. The whole offense was off last year. __________________ To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. | Anyone see the Post Dispatch Sports page today? It put Tomlinson's numbers and Jacksons numbers side by side for each of their 3 first season in the league. Jackson is nowhere close to Tomlinson's numbers, however he's looking for about the same amount of money as Tomlinson got I guess at that time. I think Steven needs to shut up and get to camp. And I love Steven Jackson...but this is getting ridiculous. I think the Rams have offered a more than fair offer for him. __________________ Remember, remember, the fifth of November |
